A Stroll through Dubrovnik With Ipod
Here’s an excellent way to get acquainted with Dubrovnik's historic Old Town—on foot, using an iPod Nano and a detailed map. This easy self-guided walking tour introduces you to the city's most famous promenade, the lively Stradun, as well as the rich historic treasures of the cathedral and the city’s imposing defensive walls. Your iPod is yours for the day, so you can spend as much time as you'd like, or as little, at each of the 20 points of interest programmed into the iPod. Simply consult the customized map to find each location and then go to the indicated number on the player for a detailed description of the site and its history. Have lunch (at your own expense) along the way and spend time shopping whenever you want.
Biking in the Konavle Valley
There is no better way to taste the scenic delights of Croatia's Konavle Valley than a scenic bicycle ride through orchards, vineyards and along the Ljuta River. Your biking adventure begins with a motor coach drive to the village of Gruda. Here, you are met by the professional staff and after a short introduction, your biking adventure begins. The scenic route winds through lush farmland, traditional stone buildings and over tiny bridges before a pause beside the Ljuta River and refreshments. Enjoy a tasting of local wines before returning to the ship.
Cavtat & Coastal Cruise
Leaving the pier by motor coach you will take the new panoramic road to the viewpoint with a magnificent view of Dubrovnik and its Riviera; then continue toward the picturesque seaside resort of Cavtat. Over the years Cavtat has become a favorite destination for sailors and yachting enthusiasts and its place in history was secured by its role as the honeymoon destination of Edward VIII and Wallace Simpson. You will enjoy a relaxing motorboat ride along Croatia's coastline and have approximately one hour to explore Cavtat on your own. Upon returning to Dubrovnik, enjoy a 45-minute guided visit through the magnificent Old Town—a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Croatian Village Life
Combine Dubrovnik's Old Town, country villages and a homemade feast on this memorable excursion that includes a visit with local residents. A scenic 40-minute drive brings you to Komaji and the Crvik family vineyards. The patriarch of the family welcomes you to their cellars to taste some of the region's finest wines and speak with the producer himself, Andro Crvik. Your country drive continues to Cilipi, where you are greeted by the Novakovics family and treated to a lunch of delicious local specialties. Although Croatia has seen many changes and a great deal of modernization, this particular family maintains a traditional lifestyle in its production of brandy, olive oil and wine—just as their ancestors have done for generations.
Dalmatian Coastal Delicacies
Enjoy a taste of Croatia with the chance to experience the true delicacies of the Dalmatian Coast—mussels, oysters and olive oil. After a pleasant bus ride along the Adriatic coastline your first stop will be in the village of Oracas. Here, olive oil is still produced the old fashioned way and the press is driven by a horse. You will be invited to taste some of the olive oil along with a snack of homemade cheese, smoked ham and wine. Step inside the old house, which has not changed noticeably since its original construction. After visiting the village of Orasac continue towards the small town of Ston, the oyster capital of Croatia. This little town is often called a "little Dubrovnik" as it too is surrounded by magnificent walls dating back to 1317 and completed in the 16th century. It is one of the longest defensive walls in the world. However, in Croatia, the name Ston is synonymous with oysters, as oyster farms surround the whole area. After visiting the town of Ston you will continue to Mali Ston. Here you will board a local boat that will take you to oyster and mussel beds. Your host will welcome you on board and introduce you to oyster and mussel farming industry in this area. You will have the opportunity to taste freshly harvested shellfish. Upon return to Mali Ston you will visit the charming Bota Tavern where lunch is served, consisting of seafood specialties (seafood risotto, seafood pasta). After lunch, return to Dubrovnik where you can visit the Old Town on your own or return to the pier.
Discover The Artistry Of Antonija Ruskovic
In the village of Gruda, this unique tour will give you the opportunity to meet the well-known local artist Antonija Ruskovic at her gallery. Antonija, who lives in Konavle, has had a number of exhibitions throughout Croatia as well as abroad. She will delight you with an introduction to the creative world of watercolor. Explore your creative instincts as you participate in this private art class. You will be offered refreshments at the gallery during your enlightening visit.
Dubrovnik Cable Car Ride & A Stroll Through the Old Town
Stroll to the lower cable car station to board the newly restored Dubrovnik Cable Car. Just a few minutes aboard the funicular will bring you to the top of Srdj Hill. The magnificent city of Dubrovnik nests at the foot of the hill and is visible below. The original Dubrovnik Cable Car was built in 1969 and was a favorite among visitors and locals who wanted to enjoy a beautiful view of Dubrovnik’s Old Town and the surrounding area. When the war began in 1991, the cable car was used to transfer more than 2.5 million people out of the city to the top of Srdj Hill. The cable car was destroyed in the war and remained out of service until a recent total restoration. After a short orientation tour atop the hill, make the most of some free time to enjoy a piece of cake with coffee or tea while taking in the majestic view. The return cable car ride will bring you to the Ploce Gate at the eastern entrance to the Old Town of Dubrovnik, near the old harbor. Your walking tour begins here. You’ll stroll along the Stradun—the main street of Dubrovnik. Keep an eye out for the Dominican church and the 15th-century Rector’s Palace, which used to be seat of the Government for the in once-independent Republic of Dubrovnik (abolished by Napoleon in 1808). You’ll also see the cathedral, built on the remains of the old cathedral that was destroyed in 1667 by an earthquake, Sponza Palace notable for its columned courtyard with elaborate stone carvings, the Church of Saint Blaise and Onofriou’s Fountain near the drawbridge and the Pile Gate. Enjoy some free time in the Old Town to explore further at your own pace.
