Coastal Towns: Sveti Stefan & Budva
Departing Kotor by motor coach and travel to the village of Sveti Stefan, located at the foot of the Lovcen mountain range. The setting here is an exciting and beautiful juxtaposition of land- and seascapes. Stopping at a panoramic viewpoint above the village, you can take in the magnificent view of Sveti Stefan. Its cobblestone streets, stone houses and rooftops make it feel as if time has stood still. Just down the road is the charming town of Budva—one of the oldest settlements in the Balkans. It is surrounded by 15th-century ramparts, including a medieval fortification system with city gates, defense walls and towers. Inside the walls, the town is a fascinating patchwork of narrow streets and small squares. Budva is a cultural center for the arts, theatre, festivals and celebrations throughout the year. After your guided tour here, enjoy some free time exploring this medieval village on your own before returning to the pier.
Cruising Kotor Bay
Discover the magnificent coastal churches, villages and vistas of Montenegro during this scenic tour and cruise. Depart the pier by motor coach for a short drive to Perast, a peaceful and quiet Baroque city. Upon arrival, take a short walking tour to see the beautiful 17th- and 18th-century buildings and numerous monuments. Next, you'll continue by boat to Gospa od Skrpjela, to visit Our Lady of the Rocks Church. This Baroque-style church, built in 1632, is situated on one of two islets in the Bay of Kotor, across from Perast. You'll see its 68 magnificent paintings by Tripo Kokolja, a famous 17th-century Baroque artist from Perast. His most important painting, The Death of the Virgin, is nearly 33 feet long. Following your tour, you'll re-join your motor boat for the return cruise through Kotor Bay back to the pier.
Kayaking Kotor Bay
Join us on this kayaking adventure on scenic Kotor Bay—a chance to discover the magnificent coastal churches, villages and vistas of Montenegro. No previous kayaking experience is necessary—you will be equipped with a life jacket and dry-bag for your clothes and towel. You will paddle approximately 6.5 miles, with an opportunity to swim, snorkel and simply enjoy the great landscapes of the surrounding mountains.
Mount Lovcen Drive
On this tour you will follow the breathtaking route that inspired British author and playwright George Bernard Shaw to write, "I have heard that the road to Cetinje via Kotor is one of the most beautiful in the world, and that is the reason I have come." He visited at the beginning of the 20th century, when he was 73 years old. Today, it has changed little, and your motor coach will take you via the winding mountain roads up along the steep slopes to the Lovcen Mountains and Lovcen National Park. This is an area of powerful contrasts—on one side tower the rugged snowcapped mountains; on the other lies the quite tranquility of one of the most beautiful bays in the world. You are headed to the small mountain village of Njegusi, a very special place because of its well-preserved folk architecture and emphasis on traditional Montenegrin cuisine. Visit a traditional smokehouse where Njeguski prsut (prosciutto) is made. You will be able to sample this tasty treat, along with local cheese and homemade bread, in this charming mountain village before returning to the pier.
Skadar Lake National Park
Visit the last remaining habitat of pelicans and the largest bird reservation in Europe. Skadar Lake is also among the few sweet water swamps still flourishing the Mediterranean. It is the biggest lake in the Balkans and a two-hour boat trip on the lake will introduce you to Skadar and the great natural and historical attractions of Montenegro. Skadarsko Jezero, as it is known in the Montenegrin language, is set within the National Park of the same name and boasts 264 species of birds, 48 species of fish and 30 submarine springs. Interestingly, these springs are called oka (eyes) by the locals. You’ll take in the many sights as you cruise on the lake—islands, bays and picturesque surroundings. Lunch will be served at a charming restaurant near the Stari Most (Old Bridge).
