When the Belmond Grand Hibernian launches on August 9th, it will be the first of its kind in Ireland, and a sister train to Belmond’s renowned Orient Express. Travelers can enjoy two-, four-, or six-night journeys, all conveniently departing from Dublin. The train’s name comes from “Hibernia,” the Latin term for the area of modern-day Ireland.
In 2015, Belmond purchased ten ordinary carriages and a locomotive from Irish Rail and began an ambitious refurbishment project. After 35,000 hours of work, the train was transformed into twenty luxury cabins accommodating forty guests.
The décor is a mixture of classic Irish tradition and contemporary glamour, with all the furniture crafted in Ireland.
The Grand Hibernian’s inaugural voyage is called the Grand Tour
