While there’s never a bad time to visit Hawaii, certainly one of the best times to go is during whale season.
The season stretches from November through May, with the peak from December to March. And don’t worry about shivering in the cold – average daytime temperatures in Hawaii are a comfortable 78º throughout the winter.
Humpback whales, much like us, love the warm weather of Hawaii. An estimated two-thirds of North America’s humpback whales return to Hawaii to breed and raise their young.
Amazingly, the whales can make the 3,000+ mile journey from the Gulf of Alaska to Hawaii in less than two months.
If you’d like to spot some of these marvelous marine mammals, Maui is a great place to start. One of the best viewing places is the Auau Channel in between Maui, Lanai, and Molokai.
