It’s hard to describe the unique gastronomy project known as elBarri – perhaps the best way would be a culinary amusement park.
Without a doubt, it’s the place to go in Barcelona for modern, sophisticated, and imaginative cuisine, truly a food-lovers’ heaven in the middle of the city.
elBarri is the brainchild of chefs Albert and Ferran Adrià, who rose to prominence as the pioneers of molecular gastronomy and the founders of the Michelin-starred restaurant elBulli. However, they closed elBulli in favor of creating a revolutionary dining experience, one that was equally innovative and gourmet yet more casual and affordable.
Thus, elBarri was born. The Adrià brothers, together with the Iglesias brothers, developed six new concept restaurants located next to each other in the center of Barcelona:
• Bodega 1900, a vermouth bar serving reimagined snack foods
• Tickets, a contemporary tapas bar
• Hoja Santa, home to elevated Mexican cuisine
• Niño Viejo, a taco bar
• Pakta, a Peruvian-Japanese fusion restaurant
• Enigma, a cocktail bar and the newest addition to the elBarri lineup
If you’re going to Barcelona, make sure you plan ahead if you want to dine at any of the elBarri restaurants – reservations sometimes fill up months in advance.
Ultra-luxury cruise line Seabourn is visiting Barcelona this spring with their newest ship, Seabourn Encore, giving you the perfect opportunity to sample elBarri’s world-class cuisine before sailing through all the highlights of the Mediterranean.
