It might sound strange – a cocktail inspired by tom yum soup, the sour and spicy specialty from Thailand.

Skeptical ourselves, it turned out to be a unique and refreshing drink that we’d happily make again.

The recipe comes courtesy of Banyan Tree Koh Samui, a beautiful resort in Thailand.

Tom Yum Cocktail

2 oz rum
1 ½ oz lime juice
¾ oz sugar syrup
6 lime wedges
3 oz sliced lemongrass
½ oz brown sugar
Ice

Garnishes:
Red chili
2 pieces sliced galangal
Kaffir lime leaf

Put all ingredients into a rock glass, except ice and garnish. Muddle until juicy. Add two scoops of ice. Garnish with red chili, sliced galangal, and kaffir lime leaf.
