Greece is world-renowned for its spectacular scenery. And what better way to take in the gorgeous views than from the water? Off the western coast of Greece, two neighboring islands are the home to an enchanting underground lake and an incredible hidden beach, complete with rusty shipwreck.

Melissani Cave

melissani

Located on the island of Kefalonia, Melissani Cave is home to a vibrant blue lake. The area was formed thousands of years ago when a large underground cavern collapsed, creating a remarkable cave with a round “skylight” revealing the surface above. Enjoy a boat tour of the cave, and make sure to schedule your visit on a sunny day between the hours of 11:00AM and 1:00PM for the most radiant colors.

Navagio Beach

ZakynthosNavagio, or Shipwreck Beach, is found on the island of Zakynthos. It is a beautiful and isolated beach, accessible only from the water. Adding to the enchantment is a rusty shipwreck, which has rested there for over thirty years. The ship was supposedly smuggling cigarettes, liquor, and maybe even people when it ran aground on Zakynthos and was then abandoned. A boat ride to the beach takes around half an hour from the nearest town.
