If you’d like to sample this delightful Portuguese pastry, visit Bélem, a historic district in the western part of Lisbon. There, follow your nose to the shop with the same name as their signature offering, Pastéis de Belém.
The bakery was opened in 1837, and continues to follow their original recipe to this day. Their recipe dates back even further, to the 16th century Jerónimos Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site that can be found just down the road.
Of course, the celebrated recipe remains a closely guarded secret of the bakery.
