You’ve checked a bag, flown to your destination, waited at the luggage carousel, only to discover…your bag is missing. Maybe it’s just delayed; maybe it’s been lost altogether.
If this nightmare hasn’t happened to you, it’s definitely happened to someone you know.
Now, a new feature of Delta’s app allows passengers some relief when it comes to luggage anxieties. Using new radio frequency identification (RFID) bag tags, the app can track the bag’s last known location.
Open the app to see a map of the US. The app will zoom in to your bag’s most recent location, allowing you to follow your bag’s progress from one airport to another, and even observe its journey through each airport.
“We’re the first carrier to offer this level of visibility,” said Bill Lentsch, Delta’s Senior Vice President – Airline Operations and Airport Customer Service. “From the moment our customers drop off their bag, we want them to know we’re looking out for it every step of the way and working to take the stress out of flying one innovation at a time.”
This new tracking feature is available at all of Delta’s 84 domestic airports. International tracking is expected by 2017. Push notifications are also on the way, which will give travelers real-time updates on their luggage.
