After a two and a half year permitting process, a three-month project to widen the shoreline from the west end of the Kuhio Beach wall, near the Duke Kahanamoku statue, to the Royal Hawaiian hotel will begin in the coming weeks. Sand will be pumped off shore and “returned” to the beach, two drain lines will also be removed allowing for pedestrian better flow without the impediments. The project is scheduled from January through March 2012 and will have temporary, partial beach closures of parts of Kuhio Beach but plenty of beach will remain available for your enjoyment.
