During a recent trip to Hong Kong I discovered it is a wonderful city as an Asia stop-over or as your vacation destination. It is a melting pot of cultures, fabulous foods and spectacular shopping.
Delta’s new non-stop flight from Seattle to Hong Kong makes it easy and their great on-board service helped to pass the 14+ hour flight time. I didn’t know what to expect when we arrived. I knew it was a large city but I didn’t realize how it’s divided into easily accessible island regions. We took the Star Ferry to the Kowloon side for international shopping and dining – in less than 15 minutes from our hotel on Hong Kong Island. We stayed at the beautiful Mandarin Oriental Hotel a landmark property with 500 rooms, 25 floors and views across Victoria Harbour.
One of the highlights for me was the Ngong Ping 360 degree cable car ride to visit Tian Tan Buddha. It was absolutely awe-inspiring! And I took the MHT train to Hong Kong Disneyland in less than ½ hour. This was the only Disneyland in the world that I hadn’t yet visited. Bucket List – check!
We enjoyed doing the Hong Kong tailor experience at Jantzen Tailor in the central district. It’s fun having a perfectly-fitting custom shirt made in 24 hours! If you have a desire for world-class gambling, you can be in Macau in less than an hour by Turbo Jet Foil from Hong Kong airport. From Dim Sum lunch to fabulous restaurants, you’ll never run out of dining options in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong offers unforgettable views, culture and experiences. Let me know if you want to visit “Asia’s World City!”
