Who is she and what does she do?! In early 2016, Regent Seven Seas appointed Serena Melani the first woman to helm one of their ships; the 700 passenger Marina. Born an explorer, she grew up along the coast of Italy with one big dream; to explore the world. She began her career when she worked as the only woman on a cargo ship. Melani said in an exclusive interview with USA Today that she keeps travel books, particularly written by women travelers, by her bed stand and even hiking the Italian Dolomites with her husband when she’s not commanding aboard her vessel.
