Windswept Beaches and Limestone Spires: Travel Australia’s Great Ocean Road

It’s one of the world’s most scenic coastal drives. Just a couple hours outside Melbourne lies the Great Ocean Road, which spans 249 miles along Australia’s southwest coastline. You can explore it on a road trip over a few days, or if you’re short on time you can take a day tour of the highlights.

Throughout the Great Ocean Road, expect to see a wide variety of scenery. The unique landscape includes everything from sandy beaches to cascading waterfalls to tropical rainforests to dramatic cliffs.  In particular, don’t miss the 12 Apostles, a series of craggy limestone formations rising out of the Southern Ocean.

If you love animals, keep an eye out for whales (between May and September), dolphins, fur seals, koalas, emus, and kangaroos.

Charming resort towns dot the coastline along the Great Ocean Road. Stop for lunch in Apollo Bay, a great spot for some fish and chips. You can even enjoy wine tastings at local vineyards.

Experience all the area has to offer on a full-day tour offered through Stellar Travel’s luxury partner Classic Vacations. Call your Stellar Travel advisor today to get started planning your dream Australian getaway.
